The Joy of Boys!

This is what happens when we leave our boys alone in the car for three minutes. Will and Bruce were fighting in the car on our way to Ohio so they were in timeout in the car after we arrived. They started throwing a water bottle back and forth and the cap hit Will's PERMANENT front tooth and snapped it right in half! I literally was on my second trip to the car when I was met in the driveway by a crying Will and a scared Bruce. I swear these boys are going to teach me patience if it kills me!
I took Will to the dentist yesterday and they built up the tooth with filling material. The dentist said he will have to be careful not to eat anything too hard or play too rough. This is only for the next ten years or so until he can get a crown on the tooth. We'll see how long that lasts!

Diaper free!

As has been tradition with our last few kids, after they are potty trained, they get to go to Build-A-Bear and pick out a stuffed animal. Naomi has been talking about doing this for a few months and we finally got around to taking her today. She has been insisting she wants a pink puppy, but when we got there, she had her heart set on a brown Dachshund. There was no changing her mind. She was her typical shy self and had to be coaxed into doing everything, but she loved it. She was afraid to put her foot on the pedal to fill the bear, but finally did it on her own.

Here she is putting the heart in her dog. She walked out of the store on cloud nine and now is sleeping with her Bitty Baby, Lily, and her new dog, Emma. As for us, we are thrilled for this new milestone. It's been a long almost 13 years of diaper buying and changing.

Bruce's Big Day!

Saturday Bruce celebrated his 7th Birthday
He couldn't have been more excited for his special day. It fell on a Saturday which meant he did not have to do his regular Saturday chores. He was sure to remind me of that everyday that week.
Bruce requested a "Buckeye" cake. I'm definitely not a cake decorator, but managed to pull something off that at least resembles an Ohio State "O". Too bad the Buckeyes didn't come through with a win. They had won every year on his birthday weekend since he was born.

Here's our little guy on his first birthday.

Bruce brings a lot of energy to our family. He is the first to share candy with someone. He loves to help his Dad. When we go to Idaho and Montana, he loves to be outside learning and helping with any kind of animal. He loves to push his little sisters buttons. He loves mangoes. He loves to snuggle. He loves to make noise. He loves puzzles. He cannot sit still for more than about 5 seconds.

We love you, Bruce!

Week in review

This week has been a little crazy around here. I keep thinking each week that the next week will be a little better, but that just doesn't ever seem to happy. I think I just need to face the facts that with six kids, life is not going to slow down!
Monday night Justin and Elizabeth each had a choir concert. Elizabeth was delighted as it gave her an excuse to get a new outfit. She has been searching for the past two months for a black and white outfit. It's not nearly as exciting for the boys: black slacks and a white shirt.
Madelyn wanted to pose for a picture just like Justin and Elizabeth. She loves being in the spotlight!
Justin and Elizabeth both received high honors for the first grading period and were recognized at an early morning recognition ceremony. We are proud of their hard work in school, especially being new to Middle School and this school system.
Will was the student of the week in his class this week. Each day he brought in something to tell about himself and then on Friday, he was able to bring in a poster about himself and his family. Aaron has been gone a lot so Will was thrilled to have his Dad be able to come in. He was so excited that we all came in. That morning, he kept giving me specific instructions about bringing the girls in. They needed to look cute and have their hair fixed. He was very adamant about it all. When was the last time you saw my girls without a bow or ribbon in their hair?
The past two weeks, Will and Bruce have been participating in a wrestling camp. Today they had a wrestling tournament. It was their first time to wrestle in any kind of a tournament. Bruce is somewhat less focused than Will. He can normally be found running in circles, hanging on one of the coaches, basically just oblivious to what is going on around him. Will is considerably more focused, aggressive, and pretty strong.
Will's team won the tournament. Will went undefeated for the day and is now super excited about wrestling!

And so it begins...

Elizabeth has been collecting magazines the past month or two. Today she brought them all out because, as she warned the kids, "Mom has already started Christmas shopping!"
Here they are so seriously studying the ads. We've got some kids with some very high expectations. Thankfully, they realize that these are truly "wish" lists and in most cases, merely for fun to see what the latest and greatest toys are out there.

Justin's lists the last couple of years have been great. He doesn't cut any pictures out. He does the research on his own. For example, he has requested a new Xbox 360 game and recommended we pre-order by November 15th for a $10 discount! Funny kid!

DAZZLED Craft Night

The PTO at our kids' elementary school puts on a craft night every fall with a variety of fall and winter crafts the kids can make. It was a huge success - our kids had a great time! Our neighbor was in charge of organizing tonight's event and did an amazing job.
I was in charge of the cupcake decorating booth. We made these cute turkey cupcakes (from Family Fun).
Here's Will making a fingerprint Christmas card - so simple and cute!
Justin volunteered at the cupcake table and Elizabeth volunteered at the "reindeer food" table.
This was probably our kids favorite craft. It was a little snowman ornament. They filled the ornament and then painted on a snowman face. Even Naomi was excited about this one.
The finished product. Sad thing is, only one of our four made it home unbroken! Each month there is a family activity planned by the PTO and so far, our kids have loved them. What a great family focused PTO!Posted by Picasa

Light Graffiti

Aaron, Justin, and Elizabeth were having some fun with the camera and a little flashlight a few nights ago. Here are a couple of their pictures:
Aaron changed the setting on the camera so that the shutter would stay open longer while the kids moved around with the light.
It was a little tricky writing the letters backwards so that they would show correctly in the picture, but she put forth a good effort!
